The Green House Effect
The green house effect and global warming go hand in hand. Without one the other cannot exist. The greenhouse effect is when certain green house gases like carbon dioxide trap the heat of the sun inside the Earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is the continuing rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere. Global warming is caused by increased concentrations of green houses in the atmosphere. This is somewhat a good thing because without an atmosphere at all human life would not be sustainable on earth, for it would be to cold.
The earth goes through these cycles every so often. Ever heard of the ice age? Or the little ice age in the Middle Ages, back then global worming was a good thing. There is a cycle… the earth keeps on cooling and heating and I think global warming ended the ice ages. And not long after the warming that's happening now, the earth will undergo cooling and the cycle would just go round and round.
Some people may not believe that global warming is real, but it as real as the sun is hot and it has already begun. The global temperature has already risen 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The ice caps have already begun melting causing the oceans to rise. Just because global warming is a slow moving problem doesn’t mean we should wait around for it to destroy the Earth. Humans need to take action for the survival of our planet.
First do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with less packaging will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass, and aluminum cans. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually. Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise. Check out options for carpooling to work or school. If you don’t like that idea maybe you should try the new hybrid cars being made that no longer run on gas, but electricity.
When nothing is done to stop or even prepare for global warming the consequences will be devastating to all life on Earth. The price of food and other commodities will be extremely high because farmers rely on a weather pattern to grow food, but because of global warming there won’t be one.
The danger to animals is as real as it is to humans. You will no longer be able to go see polar bears because there species is already beginning to wiped out today. When the seas rise land will be flooded and countless species of animals will be harmed. When the food chain is disrupted with the extinction of humans is not far off. We depend on animals for our food, and even if you are a vegan you will not be able to grow vegetables because the weather will be too severe.
The current cycle of global warming is changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely upon. What will we do to slow this warming? How will we cope with the changes we've already set into motion? While we struggle to figure it all out, the face of the Earth as we know it—coasts, forests, farms, and snowcapped mountains—hangs in the balance.
