World Geography Report
The difference between climate and weather is that Climate refers to the average or typical weather conditions observed over a long period of time for a given area.
But weather is the state of the atmosphere for example hot or cold, wet or dry.
Weather refers to day to day's temperature.
The relationship with the Earth and the Sun effects the climates. Weather and climate made from the Sun's light. Sunlight also makes the Earth warm and it also gives u light.
If we don't have sunlight, we will be cold, dark and we might not be able to live on planet Earth.
On Earth, just a small amount of sun's radiation reaches the Earth's surface and some are reflected back into space.
The Earth's atmosphere keeps the heat and makes it not escape. The Earth's atmosphere has been compared to greenhouses, which traps the sun's warmth for growing plants. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would be too cold to live.
The Earth has an axis which is in the center of the Earth. Since it has an axis and it's tilt, each part of the Earth doesn't receive the same amount of sunlight.
In 24hrs, the Earth makes one rotation turning from west to east which makes day and night.
The Earth orbits the sun as well as the other planets in 1 year. This revolution and the Earth's tilt makes the 4 seasons during the year.
Wind and water combine with the effects and the of the sun which creates the weather and climates. Air moving on the surface of Earth is called wind.Wind that blow in a constantly pattern is called prevailing winds. At the Equator is a frequently windless area which is called the doldrums.
Currents are warm and cold water of the seawater that flows in the oceans. Currents are caused by the rotation of the earth , moving air, and differences in water temperature in the ocean itself which can be warm or cold.
The Earth's surface can also affect climates. The temperature of the land areas that is near the oceans do not change as much as temperatures of land areas that is not close to the oceans.
Geographers usually divide the Earth into 5 major climate regions, which is tropical, dry, mid latitude, high latitude, and highland.
Tropical climates are usually hot, wet and dry and the temperature is high.
Dry climates are usually in the desert and is hot and dry day and night.
Mid latitude climates have hot, dry summers and rainy winters.
High latitude have bitterly cold winters and have thick snow and ice.
About Highland climate, the higher the altitude is, the cooler the air becomes. So it's hard for plants to grow in this climate area.
Climate and weather also effects peoples clothing as well. For example, if the climate/weather is cold, people would wear warm thick clothing. But, if it's hot and warm, people would wear that would make themselves cool.
Not just clothing, climate and weather will also effects the transportation and houses.
It is good to keep the Earth warm for living things on Earth but if we make the Earth too warm it causes Global Warming. This for example makes the ice break down,
and will might change climates around the Earth.
